AAMVA releases new best practice guide for administering third-party agents

Jurisdictions all across North America partner with third-party agents for a range of reasons and under differing arrangements. A few years ago, AAMVA began hearing from its members about some issues and challenges they were experiencing with third-party agents in part due to the gray areas of those partnerships that had not been contractually defined or for which a remediation process had not been outlined. Guidance was needed.

Partners for the Journey

Jurisdictions find success working with third-party agents

To meet the challenge of providing timely, accessible motor vehicle services across the sprawling continent, jurisdictions rely on a network of field offices and third-party agents. Partnering with third parties has proven successful in some jurisdictions — especially those with disparate populations. But extending government operations to private industry is not without its challenges and requires a diligent commitment to high standards.

The Future of Driver Education

Driver education has evolved to accommodate new content and teaching practices based on available research and vehicle technology

Despite rapid advances in vehicle technologies, and the move towards semi-autonomous vehicles or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), it is essential drivers remain engaged in the driving task. Semi-automated vehicles are anticipated to change the way drivers interact with their vehicles so driving skills will remain a critical need. Drivers must still learn and retain basic operating skills, even if they do not have to drive every day. Driver educators must be prepared to address these new challenges, and continuous driver education may become essential for all drivers, as opposed to just new drivers.
